Wat Chalong

The most important temple on Phuket is Wat Chalong. Here especially two monks who lived and worked during the time of the uprising of the tin workers are worshipped. Luang Pho Chuang and Luang Pho Chaemp.
Especially the latter is attributed magic powers and many Thais come around him, against an offering, to ask for help. Mostly as a promise with fulfillment of the wish the burning of a firecracker chain is given, 1000 firecrackers, 2000 or also 10,000 depending upon size of the wish.

The fact that the requests are not at all so rarely heard is shown by the very often burnt firecracker chains in a special oven in front of the temple. This is a loud spectacle. The temple itself can be visited up to just below the top and offers a beautiful view of the surroundings. Beside the big main temple there are other outbuildings. Very beautiful is the old wooden sala, in whose, air-conditioned interior, there are wax pictures of venerated monks. It is a very peaceful place, which is often used for meditation.
