The southernmost point of Phuket is a very popular excursion point especially at sunset. Then it can become very crowded in the high season. Busloads of tourists from all over the world come to photograph the “most famous of all sunsets on Phuket”. But is it the most beautiful? In my opinion there are much better and quieter places for sunset.
Better is a visit before, because then you can really enjoy the beautiful views from the “end of Phuket”. There are views of Naiharn, to the Racha Islands and other smaller islands. There is also a footpath to the very end of the headland, but in the last area it gets steep and rocky.
On the cape there is also a lighthouse, which is air-conditioned inside and offers some interesting maritime artifacts. It can be climbed and offers an even better view.
To the right of the ascent to Promthep Cape there is a good, not too expensive, restaurant with a fantastic view from where you can enjoy the sunset in peace. However, you should arrive before 18.00 o’clock to get a seat in any case.
- Opening hours: Daily 24/7 or whenever you want. The restaurant closes at 23.00.
- Directions: Laem Promthep is located in the very south of Phuket and can be reached from Nai Harn as well as from Rawai.
- By Taxi: Every cab driver knows the way to Laem Promthep or Promthep Cape.
